This is a quaint stone cottage with an inglenook fireplace and many original features but the brief was to blend the cottage feel with a modern extension, maximizing light and views of the garden.
A two storey extension was added to the rear with a large balcony giving South facing views of the long garden. Most of the existing first floor internal walls were removed as the client was keen to ‘open up’ the first floor with a first floor sitting area in the extension and a gallery to the dining room below, giving a sense of height in contrast to the low ceilings of the cottage.
