The PCT commissioned a New Medical Centre in Whitebirk, Blackburn. An extensive search took place for a suitable site and a redundant pub on a busy road junction was selected.
Prolonged discussions took place with the planning and highways department before planning approval was obtained.
The circular design was selected to emphasise the buildings prominence and because there is no main elevation facing the junction. A circular light well rises through the centre of the building with a dome light over and a circular reception below.
The accommodation includes seven consulting rooms, treatment, nurse, outside staff, rec/waiting, admin, conference, gym and optician.
